February 2012 Meeting Reminder

Skylands Stitchers meets this Sunday 5 February 1:30 – 4pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Succasunna.

Jill will be teaching bead embroidery to those who signed up in advance. Kits will be provided with everything you need except for scissors. Oops, just realized that I haven’t done a final calculation of the cost, but it will be minimal because the board managed to come up with all the beads you’ll be using from our stashes. So I’m guessing around $5.

Hospitality will be provided by Dorna and Molly.

December Meeting Reminder

Skylands Stitchers meets this Sunday, 4 December, at 1:30 in our regular location, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Succasunna.

This month is our annual Holiday Potluck/Party. People born in even years should bring an appetizer or finger food and those born in odd years should bring a dessert. Feel free to bring your own festive holiday plate and/or mug if you want to. (Don’t worry, paper/plastic goods will be provided!)

We will have to do a little bit of regular business — we need to elect a new vice president and secretary, and do the final sign-up for our Correspondence Course, “Moonlight Sonata” (intermediate hardanger). Be prepared to pay the $40 fee at the meeting if you plan to participate. (If you won’t be at the meeting but want to participate, please contact me or Sue Chadwick ASAP.) You can see the description of the project and photos in the education area of the National EGA website.

Our celebration will include an ornament exchange — don’t forget to wrap your ornament and include a note inside with your name. We will also have opportunity basket drawings.

We’d also like to have an especially festive show and tell for our enjoyment and to impress our guests, so bring in any finished projects that you’d like to share.

If you are bringing guests, please let Maria know by December 3rd.

Also, if anyone has completed a Chrismon, please bring it to the meeting so we can present them to the Church.

Whew, I think that’s all. See you Sunday!

October 2011 Meeting Reminder

Skylands Stitchers meets this Sunday, 2 October, at 1:30 in our regular location, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Succasunna.

Hospitality will be provided by Jeannie and Maria.

At this meeting we’ll be learning to do stitch-and-flip crazy piecing. You should bring a minimum of two and a maximum of 4-6 small pieces of fabric about 6 inches square. The best choices will probably be solids or tone-on-tone fabrics — your embroidered embellishments should take center stage, not the fabrics themselves. Some packets of fabrics will be available for a small charge — it would help me if you’d let me know by Friday if you know you’ll want one of my packets, so I know how many to bring. You should also bring fabric scissors, some pins, and a needle and thread.

We’ll be piecing a rectangle to use as a practice piece over the course of the year as we do separate programs on surface embroidery, bead embroidery, and ribbon embroidery. We’ll have finishing ideas for the rectangle (cuff bracelet, cold can wrap, candle wrap, etc.) or you can just view it as a practice piece that doesn’t need to be turned into anything at all.

Be prepared to cast your final vote for a Correspondence Course for the chapter to do next spring. Also, those who have finished their annual contract piece (what you committed to finish last year at this time) should bring in their pieces and show them off. We’ll also be making our commitments for the upcoming year.

I’ll also be asking for volunteers for a nominating committee (we elect the vice president and secretary this fall) and for the bylaws review committee.

See you Sunday!
